Julie Koontz
Founder & President
Julie Koontz combines her 20-year experience as a licensed massage therapist and her background in the medical marijuana industry with a lifelong passion for hip-hop culture to address mental health and suicide prevention. Inspired by personal experiences with loss, Julie established The Preservatory to offer a unique blend of art, music, and wellness support to those affected by suicide, aiming to provide a beacon of hope through the healing power of hip-hop.
Fabian Ortega
Vice President
With over 25 years in the nonprofit sector, Fabian Ortega has dedicated his career to empowering communities of color and supporting marginalized populations. His extensive experience spans drug and alcohol prevention, victim support services, workforce development, and advocacy for social justice. Fabian's strategic leadership and commitment to creating inclusive environments drive The Preservatory's mission forward.
Melanie Virdi
Treasurer
Mimi "da Masala" Virdi, a trailblazer in Denver's hip-hop scene, infuses her passion for music and community empowerment into her role at The Preservatory. Her personal battles and triumphs underscore her commitment to using hip-hop as a medium for healing and unity, making her a vibrant force for mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
